The Rules of Pro-Bending
So after watching the clip like, totally only once or twice I swear, I’m pretty sure I’ve figured out how pro-bending works. Not sure if everyone’s figured all this out already, but I wanted to put this little thing together anyway since I missed out on the gif-making-train.
Alright, so dig on this sweet dudes and ladies:
The arena is divided into two equal sides, a red side and a blue side.
Each team starts on either side of the center dividing line.
Throughout the beginning of the match, notice how neither team passes over that center line. That is until…
…someone gets knocked over the next line back…
…at which point, there is a buzzer and the center line turns green, which the Fire Ferrets take as their cue to advance.
Now the Fire Ferrets have the advantage, as they’ve pushed back their opponents into a smaller area, but again notice that no one is passing over that next dividing line.
Now this is the part that I’m a little unsure of. Based on all of the above, it would stand to reason that you achieve victory by pushing your opponents back into the final section and then finally over the edge and into the water (note how the opposite ends of the arena are the only spots that don’t have guard rails), however, the match ends before that can happen. What I’m assuming happens here is essentially a technical knockout of sorts, since all three of the Rabarroos seem to be unable to continue fighting.
This is obviously a pretty one-sided match, but when the teams are more evenly matched it would basically be tug-of-war with bending.
It’s also worth noting that since both teams are always separated by a dividing line, they can’t actually make any physical contact with each other beyond their bending. I imagine this is because the sport is really only meant to focus on bending, not fighting. Like, it’s not a martial arts competition with bending included, it’s literally pro-bending, and that is it.
I’m really excited to see more of this though, especially considering how intense the push-and-pull mechanic would be between more balanced teams.

I’M THE AVATAR! YOU’VE GOTTA
Yamino gave me some very helpful crit and some truths: i need to get out of my comfort zone!
those last sketches were incredibly lazy (i will make an excuse… i was talking on the phone with my mom and am nursing a hangover), but that doesn’t excuse bad sketches!!!
so i took yamino’s advice and brushed up on my muscle anatomy. korra is muscular!!! if i wanna draw copious amounts of fanart, i’m gonna have to work hard to make her look that way. :D hopefully these are a bit better. thanks, yamino! she’s a great friend.

I especially like it because it gives Korra her proper real life race unlike what happened in the travesty that was The Last Failbender (among many other major failures). Really, seeing this come from Nick definitely sets up a precedent - even if we’re unlikely to see any AtLA movie anytime soon.
I feel like something has come full circle, looking at this photo. racebending.com: the little activism that could, thanks to the amazing woman posed with Korra. I can’t love this photo more.
