This is the most meaningful parallel I found yet.
Tenzin taught his children how to do the Air Scooter; a form of ground transportation invented by Aang himself, is a spherical “ball” of air that can be ridden balancing on it like a top. An airbender is declared a Master once he/she has fully mastered the 36 tiers of airbending and/or when he/she creates a new airbending technique; Aang was the exception in this case, since he mastered only 35 tiers and made a new move, The Air Scooter.
what i want from LoK in regards to airbending
ok so i’ve already talked about my views on airbending
basically i feel like it’s so much more destructive than we got to see in AtLA - i feel like the air nomads deliberately chose a spiritual path in order to control and be at one with their chaotic element. there is proof in AtLA that air is far more dangerous than it seems - there are at least 2 instances when Aang gets furious (in the Avatar state) and wrecks havoc with airbending.
so what i want from LoK
isn’t just Korra embracing her spiritual side and suddenly yay airbending
i want Tenzin to explain that there’s a reason the spiritual and airbending go hand in hand - that without a calm mind and spirit it is hard to master air, that air would master you. i want Korra to struggle with airbending, but not in the she-can-only-bend-slightly sort of way, but rather… like, i see Korra airbending and it gets way out of her control and suddenly there’s a tornado and when it calms down of its own accord there’s all this destruction.
i mean, imagine an element as intangible and powerful and chaotic as air, wielded by someone with more of a fire nation personality.

This such an amazing take on it! I really think you’re right, since in one of the clips I think Tenzin says something about her being more gentle with her airbending with the little air nomad screen things.
